This year, the Orthopaedics Down Under (ODU) conference brought together leading orthopaedic surgeons, researchers, and innovators for two dynamic days of collaboration and cutting-edge insight. With a focus on complex reconstructions, biologics, implant technology, and orthopaedic oncology, the event provided a comprehensive look at the evolving landscape of orthopaedic surgery.
From the history and future of the megaprosthesis to advancements in 3D pelvic classification systems and the ever-relevant debate of biologics versus metal, each session encouraged open discussion, knowledge sharing, and clinical reflection. In-depth case reviews added real-world context, reinforcing the conference’s commitment to improving long-term patient outcomes through surgical excellence and innovation.
One topic that resonated with attendees was Periprosthetic Joint Infection—a complex and increasingly relevant issue in surgical practice. To explore this further, we invite you to read the latest editorial piece by our Clinical Research Associate, Caitlyn Aherne, titled 'Tackling Periprosthetic Joint Infection (PJI): What’s Next?'. As always, we give special thanks to our convenors, Dr. Jakub Jagiello and Dr. Luke Johnson, whose leadership helped shape a truly impactful event. We also thank all presenters for sharing their valuable expertise and experience.
